The Torgu Kingdom was a tongue-in-cheek “micronation” proclaimed in 1992 in Torgu Parish, located on the island of Saaremaa in Estonia. After a technical omission left Torgu off the official map during the restoration of Estonian independence, locals humorously declared their own kingdom, electing a symbolic “king.” Though never taken seriously as a sovereign entity, the episode became a curious anecdote of Estonia’s post-Soviet transition and is still remembered today as a playful act of local identity and protest.
