Issue historically associated with present-day Germany and Sweden.
These screw talers were created as small personal containers, combining numismatic and sentimental purposes. They were often used to conceal miniature portraits, devotional images, locks of hair, or written messages. Some served as tokens of love or remembrance, others as religious reliquaries or souvenirs of travel and faith.
Produced mainly in southern Germany and Austria during the 17th and 18th centuries, they reflected both the craftsmanship of the period and the personal, often secretive character of early modern European society.
