This patriotic medal was issued in 1915 during World War I to honor the heroism and sacrifice of the Russian infantryman. The central figure, depicted with stern dignity, embodies the image of the common soldier as the pride of the empire. The reverse inscription glorifies the Russian military forces engaged in the conflict of 1914–1915. The medal was produced by the workshop of A. Jacquart and engraved by G. Malyshev.
