This medal commemorates the treaty concluded in 1704 between Sweden and the Polish general confederation formed in Warsaw after the decision to depose King Augustus II. Issued during the Great Northern War, it reflects Sweden’s intervention in the internal affairs of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and its effort to reshape the political order in Poland, today Poland and Lithuania, in opposition to Augustus II, who was also Elector of Saxony, today Germany. The imagery of the bound sheaf and the inscriptions emphasize unity, restored liberty, and the preservation of the Commonwealth’s frontiers under the new political alignment supported by Charles XII.
