MDCCCXIV.
In the spring of 1814, after the capture of Paris by the Allied forces on 31 March, Alexander I of Russia entered the French capital at the head of the coalition armies. His presence in Paris marked the decisive collapse of Napoleon’s rule and the end of the War of the Sixth Coalition.
Alexander I remained in the city for several weeks, playing a central role in the political negotiations that followed Napoleon’s abdication. He supported the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy under Louis XVIII and became one of the key figures shaping the post-Napoleonic settlement of Europe. The emperor’s stay in Paris symbolized both Russia’s military prestige and its newly established influence in European affairs on the eve of the Congress of Vienna.
