The Upper Silesian plebiscite was held on 20 March 1921 to determine whether the region should belong to Germany or Poland. The vote resulted in 59.4% for Germany and 40.6% for Poland, but in 1922 the League of Nations assigned East Upper Silesia, including a large part of the region’s mining and industrial area, to Poland.
