(Of the Wiśniowiecki line, related to the Jagiellons; son of the hero Jeremi and of Gryzelda Zamoyska; elected king beyond expectation and against his own wishes on 19 June 1669; after a short reign, cut off by cares of rule and the hatred of the envious; died at Lwów in 1673, aged 34, in the 4th year of his reign, on 11 November).
Michael Korybut Wiśniowiecki (1640-1673) was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, elected in 1669 after the abdication of John II Casimir. Son of Jeremi Wiśniowiecki, he came from a powerful Ruthenian noble family of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, whose historical lands are now chiefly in Poland and Ukraine. His brief reign was marked by internal political conflict, and he died at Lwów, now Lviv in Ukraine.
