(Son of Augustus II, elected in 1733, crowned in 1734; pious and gentle, he was unable to grant to Poland the good it desired, because twelve sejms were continually broken off; he died in Dresden in 1763, at the age of 67, in the 30th year of his reign, on 5 October).
Augustus III (1696-1763), son of Augustus II the Strong, was Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. His reign united Saxony, now part of Germany, and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, now chiefly Poland, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine, but in Poland his rule became associated with political paralysis caused by repeatedly disrupted sejms. He died in Dresden, Germany.
