The Virgin Lands Campaign was a major Soviet agricultural program launched in the 1950s to increase grain production by cultivating vast areas of previously unused land in Kazakhstan, Siberia, and other regions. The Komsomol played a central role in this effort, organizing large numbers of young volunteers to participate in the development and cultivation of these territories. In 1956, the Komsomol was awarded the Order of Lenin in recognition of its contribution to the campaign.
