The meeting of Mikhail S. Gorbachev, General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee and Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, with Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany Richard von Weizsäcker took place in Bonn during Gorbachev’s official visit to West Germany on 12-15 June 1989. It became one of the symbolic episodes of the late Soviet period, reflecting the rapid easing of East-West tensions on the eve of the end of the Cold War.
