Rev.: Chronogram 1710. Peter I standing right in Roman armour and cloak, wearing a laurel wreath, holding a sceptre in his left hand; with his right hand he receives a mural crown from the personification of the island of Oesel, depicted as a kneeling female figure with a shell crown, holding a scroll with the fortress plan in her left hand.

The medal commemorates the capture of Arensburg (Kuressaare, island of Ösel/Saaremaa) by Russian forces during the Great Northern War. The Swedish garrison capitulated on 15 September 1710, securing Russian control over the island without a prolonged siege. The occupation of Ösel strengthened Russia’s position in the Baltic and accelerated the collapse of Swedish dominance in the eastern Baltic region.
