Issued as the membership badge of the Estonian Hunting Society, an organization active during the interwar Republic of Estonia (1918–1940). After the primary functions of the Defence League had declined following the War of Independence, marksman and hunting squads—later organized into platoons-continued the development of Defence League shooting activities, promoting marksmanship skills and civic defense readiness throughout Estonia.
