This medal, struck in aluminum, a material still novel for medallic art at the time, was issued on the occasion of the International Electrotechnical Exhibition held in Frankfurt am Main in 1891. The exhibition showcased the latest achievements in electrical engineering, including the pioneering long-distance transmission of alternating current, which marked a decisive step in the spread of electric power throughout Europe.
