(Crowned in Moscow on 14 May 1896). 

This medal was established by decree of Emperor Nicholas II, issued to the Senate on 26 May 1896, to commemorate his coronation. It was awarded to all active state officials, both class and non-class ranks, and enlisted personnel present in Moscow during the coronation celebrations; to representatives of estates and other groups in attendance; and to those involved in the preparation and organization of the festivities. By special permission, it was also granted to correspondents, artists, and photographers who took part in documenting the coronation, as well as to the medalists, engravers, and craftsmen of the St. Petersburg Mint who contributed to its production. Over 152,000 pieces were struck.
