Jean Victor Marie Moreau was among the most capable generals during the Revolution and the Consulate. In 1804 he was exiled at the initiative of Napoleon, suspected of being a rival, and emigrated to North America. At the initiative of Bernadotte he entered service in the Russian army in the rank of aide-de-camp to the emperor. At the Battle of Dresden he was wounded and died a few days later.
