Finland (Russia) Silver Prize Medal ND (Late 19th - early 20th century) - Vasa County Agricultural Society - NGC MS 63

Medalier: G. Loos (signed G. LOOS below the pedestal on obverse).

Obv.: Allegorical composition representing agricultural prosperity. In the center, a standing female figure in classical attire (Ceres) holds laurel wreaths in both hands. To her left, a farmer leads two horses; to her right, a peasant woman stands beside a cow and a calf. Below the pedestal, agricultural implements including a plow, sickle, rake, and scythe are arranged.

Rev.: Three-line inscription in Swedish within a richly detailed wreath composed of oak and laurel branches. At top, a leaping stag; at bottom, a horse, grain stalks, a steam-powered threshing machine, and other symbols of rural advancement.

This medal was issued by the Vasa County Agricultural Society (Wasa läns landtbrukssällskap), a prominent rural institution in the Grand Duchy of Finland under Russian rule. Such societies were instrumental in advancing modern agricultural methods, promoting livestock breeding, and organizing regional exhibitions. The classical allegory and rich symbolism reflect both industrial progress and the ideal of harmonious labor between man and nature in Finland’s western provinces during the reign of Nicholas II.
