(Of the French Angevin line; son of Charles, King of Hungary, and King of Hungary himself; nephew of Casimir the Great through his sister Elisabeth; he endowed the knightly order in Poland with many privileges; died at Trnava in 1382 at the age of 56, after 12 years of rule in Poland, on September 10).

Louis I of Hungary (Ludwik Węgierski) (1326-1382) was King of Hungary and, from 1370, also King of Poland, ruling territories corresponding to modern Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and parts of Croatia and Ukraine. His reign marked the personal union between Hungary and Poland and was characterized by efforts to strengthen royal authority while granting privileges to the Polish nobility. Through his Angevin lineage, he maintained close ties with Western Europe, influencing political developments across Central Europe.
