The visit of the Russian Imperial Fleet to Toulon in October 1893 became one of the most important public demonstrations of the rapprochement between France and the Russian Empire. Following the French naval visit to Kronstadt in 1891, the celebrations at Toulon confirmed the growing political and military understanding between the two powers and marked a decisive stage in the formation of the Franco-Russian Alliance.
