The coronation of Carl XV as King of Sweden took place in 1860 in the cathedral of Uppsala. Born in 1826, Carl succeeded his father, King Oscar I, in 1859 and was formally crowned the following year. The coronation followed traditional Lutheran rites and symbolized the continuity of royal authority within a constitutional monarchy. At the time of his accession, Carl XV had already served as Crown Prince Regent during his father's illness and had gained popularity for his liberal views and national romantic ideals. His reign marked a period of gradual political reform and growing parliamentary influence. The coronation ceremony reinforced his role as a unifying figure for the Swedish nation and his legitimacy as ruler of Sweden, as well as the traditional titles "of the Goths and the Wends." The event was accompanied by public celebrations and the issuance of commemorative medals, including largesse pieces distributed at the ceremony.
