Obv.: Half-length portrait of Peter I facing front, with his head turned slightly to the left. He wears a laurel wreath, armor with the St. Andrew ribbon over his shoulder, and an ermine-lined mantle.

Rev.: Seated figures of Neptune and Minerva on either side. Minerva points toward the cityscape of St. Petersburg on the right; Neptune gestures to the Gulf of Finland with ships on the left.

This medal commemorates the death of Peter the Great, one of Russia’s most transformative rulers. The allegorical reverse, depicting Neptune and Minerva, symbolizes Peter’s dual legacy as a military and naval leader, and as a patron of wisdom, science, and urban development. The pointing gestures toward land and sea emphasize the breadth of his achievements and Russia’s emergence as a European power under his rule.
